Exploring My Creative Side

I have been on a creative journey for about a year now. That journey seems to have led me towards painting and drawing and colors. I still love to write and my camera, but if given the choice I would much rather draw or paint. Funny enough this all began when I was trying to create an image (similar to the one above) for my blog. I was going through different fonts and getting annoyed that I couldn’t find one that I loved. A “G” would look weird in one and then other parts of the word wouldn’t work with others. That’s when I picked up a pencil and started my first journey into hand lettering.

Ya’ll I have the worst hand writing in the world, but I am some what ok at drawing. Not great my any means, but what I draw is at least recognizable even if a little wonky. I was so happy to learn that about 90% of hand lettering is drawing! I’ve also learned that when I slow down and discipline myself I am actually quite good at it.

I still have a ways to go though. 🙂

I started doing more and more and trying to replicate what I saw on Pinterest and Instagram (which is the best way to start!)

and eventually I ran across a class on SkillShare. I had never seen the site before but it had a free trial so I gave it a shot. Well! There went my productivity, right out the window! I am in love. There are so many things to learn on that site. Photography, Watercolor Painting, Acrylic Painting, Hand Lettering, Chalk Lettering, Bounce Lettering, Cooking, Social Media, Blogging. You name it, they have it. I am even toying with the idea of creating some classes of my own (chalk paint and blogging to name a few).

I even ran across some classes on Surface Pattern Design and I am in love!! I have been creating repeating patterns (the pillow below) and digitizing my drawings. I actually created the image at the top of this post. If you click on it, you can download the original image and it makes a great desktop background for your computer. 🙂

If, like me,  you have been recently bitten by the creative bug you should definitely check out SkillShare
