Getting Healthy With Jenny Craig

I have been on a mission these last few years to not only get myself healthy, but my family too! It started with trying to eat more fresh food and that was fantastic but turns out just because you bake bread with whole wheat flour does not mean you won’t gain 10 pounds. Then I tried this other diet where to kickstart you basically eat no carbs, caffeine, or alcohol for 3 days. I made it three days and lost quite a bit of the bloat around my middle but my children were afraid of me and I didn’t have the energy to continue. Finally last summer I decided to tackled the Whole 30, which means no sugar, no grains, no legumes (including peanuts), no soy, no dairy, and no alcohol. However, I knew a modified Whole 30 would be necessary since it was summer and both boys home all day every day meant wine would be required. So I did it! I made it 30 days without any of that stuff! It was So. Very. Hard. I lost about 15 pounds which was awesome and I broke a ton of habits like sugar in my coffee, and no sweet tea, but it was really hard coming back to the world of normal food and finding a good balance. I had started to put back some of the weight by September and knew the holidays were going to make it worse.

Imagine my delight when the day before Christmas Eve I learned that I was getting the opportunity to try Jenny Craig! My mother and sister had both used Jenny Craig in the past and raved about it. The timing was fantastic. Once I returned from my in laws after Christmas, I used the body composition scale my mother had given us for Christmas to learn that I had gained 4 pounds in 7 days!!! First, I pulled on the exercise clothes my mother also had given me for Christmas (I’m surprised I don’t have a complex from all these hints she’s sending 😉 ) and exercised and then I immediately scheduled my first consultation with my very own, personal, Jenny Craig consultant.

Having personal support is the cornerstone of what they do at Jenny Craig. When you sign up you get paired with a dedicated consultant to give you one-on-one support. Nicole was fantastic! She helped me identify my challenges (the late afternoon munchies, to name just one!!) and clarify my goals (to lose 10 pounds). She informed me that Jenny Craig members can expect to lose an average of 1-2 pounds per week, which is a healthy range of weight loss and then helped me create my first weeks meal plan and talk about what activities/exercise I hoped to accomplish.

Then Nicole handed me my favorite part of the whole experience. My little Getting Started Guide. Between that and the Weekly Menu Plan I literally had everything I needed to make healthy decisions. I have kept these close at hand these last few weeks. I kept the Menu Plan on my chalk board wall in the kitchen to mark off the things as I ate them and even wrote notes of encouragement next to it. LOL

Nicole also pointed out all of the information they provide in the guide on portion control, healthy eating habits and showed me how to combine the Jenny Craig Meals and Snacks (Yum!) with the Fresh & Free Additions which are rich in water and fiber to help me feel fuller longer without adding as many calories.

It was great getting to sit down and talk to someone about my challenges. She asked about specific challenges I could see coming up in the next week and helped me problem solve and come up with solutions for sticking with my plan!

And the food? Yum! It hasn’t felt like I was dieting. I’m eating french toast for breakfast and fried chicken bowls for lunch! I end every meal feeling full and satisfied and once I got the hang of carrying the fruit and anytime bars around with me I wasn’t starving before the next meal.
