Ergo Baby? We’ll See!

So, I have researched and made a preliminary decision. It is important that you know my priorities for a baby carrier so that you understand what motivated me to purchase an Ergo Baby carrier. In order of importance they are:

  1. Safety/Quality
  2. Noah’s Comfort
  3. My Comfort
  4. Price

I wasn’t expecting price to be so far down on the list, but when you really get down to it, price isn’t as important as the other three. If it was I would still be using my $10 infantino that I got from a consignment store….. Of course my baby’s safety is my number one concern, second is his comfort and third is my comfort.

When examining the baby carrier reviews online I found that most babies were comfortable when seated in a carrier, not hanging in the carrier. I also found that for my comfort it needed to have a waist strap for lumbar support. This narrowed the field significantly. The only two manufacturers that provided lumbar support and the quality I was searching for were Ergo Baby and Baby Bjorn. Obviously, these brands are quite pricy.

Baby Bjorn Comfort Carrier

I started my search on ebay and found some ok deals, but I was hesitant to purchase something on ebay that I wasn’t sure I would like. For every great review there is generally a reasonable complaint, so I knew I was just going to have to try it out and if I didn’t like it then I would have to worry about reselling it on ebay. It would have been possible, but I didn’t want to deal with the hassle. So I turned to some of the baby websites and found diapers.com. They offered all the carriers at a competitive price and they were even offering a special. The best part was that they offered free two day shipping AND free returns. Woo hoo!!!

Ergo Baby Performance

The next step was to narrow it down by picking different models to compare. After reading more reviews I found that the Ergo Baby Performance, Ergo Baby Sport, and Baby Bjorn Comfort all fit best with my needs. Unfortunately I’m pretty sure that the Baby Bjorn Comfort would fit all of my needs, EXCEPT #4, price. It’s retail price starts around $150 depending on which site you go with and it was super expensive at diapers.com and they weren’t offering a special on it. 🙁 I’m pretty sure that this would be the best carrier for us. It has the lumbar support, lighweight fabric (hello! I live in florida!) and best of all the baby can face out!! But I wasn’t willing to spend that much. So that narrowed it down to the Ergo Baby Performance and Ergo Baby Sport. The Ergo Baby brand boasts great lumbar support and is probably the most comfortable of all carriers. The main complaints are that baby can’t face outwards and that the material of the original carrier made it extremely hot. Luckily the Performance and Sport models are made using lighter weight fabric. I believe that the performance is probably lighter weight than the Sport model, but the sport model was cheaper and came in a pretty blue color. I know appearance wasn’t on my list, but come on baby blue is much better than pea green and grey! 🙂

Ergo Baby Sport

So when it was all said and done I bought the baby blue Ergo Baby Sport Carrier from Diapers.com for $105 with a $20 credit. I also found a Visa gift card in my wallet that still had $30 on it!! So, technically, I only paid $55. Not a bad deal! 🙂 I also feel much better knowing.  if I don’t like it or it isn’t comfortable for me and Noah. that I can return it for free. Also, I am going to get it on Saturday!! Woo Hoo! Can’t wait!!
