Our Decision to Homeschool

Our Decision to Homeschool

I recently had to make a decision that had been weighing very heavy on my heart. As a stay at home mom, I have always had a hard time justifying putting the boys in school. I have worked part time from home off and on for the past couple of years. Most of it was blog or etsy stuff, but last year I picked up a client, a local small business, handling their social media. Unfortunately this work was not completely covering the cost of sending both boys to school and when the team is winning that’s not such a problem, but, well, we can’t always be at the top, so in order to take some pressure off of Eric I have taken Noah out of preschool.

I quickly decided that Bryce needed to be in preschool for two reasons, #1) He is just turning 2 and needs to learn socialization and sharing and #2) That kid never stops moving, he is exhausting!!! I need a break! I can teach Noah how to write and count and his numbers but I think I would have a harder time working with Bryce on sharing and playing with others. His teachers at the preschool are way more patient and consistent. They did an AMAZING job with Noah and I think it’s best that Bryce get that experience too.

Once I had made the decision I had to tell the director at the preschool. It was the last day of camp and I talked to her right after dropping the boys off in their classes. Miraculously, I made it through without crying. I left and headed to the nearest Starbucks to start my home school research. One of my favorite bloggers, who I have been following for two or three years, Diane Wrote, also home schools her daughter and has blogged about it. I immediately pulled up her blog and this was what I read!

“Above all was this: I believe God has laid homeschooling on my heart for a reason.”

Chills ran up and down my arms as I read this. Wow. There have been times in my life when I felt like I was receiving a message straight from God and this had that exact same feeling. I was full of doubt and so worried about all the things Noah was going to miss this year and once I read this I started to focus on what he would be gaining.

I am fumbling through this whole homeschooling business, but with the help of other amazing mom’s like Diana I am going to figure this out. It is amazing the resources we have available to us with the internet and I am lucky to live in a large metropolitan area like Atlanta where I am sure there are many homeschool resources available.

I can’t wait to share this journey with you all!
