Pottytraining Naked with Rewards Works For Us!!

Pottytraining Naked with Rewards

Pottytraining is going so. much. better! I never thought those words would come out of my mouth! Two things have been the secret to our success keeping him naked and using pottytraining rewards charts.

1) Naked

I’m telling you it took a while for me to comfortable with Noah running around naked. I was terrified he was going to hose down the walls and furniture before I could get him to the bathroom! I knew he was going to soak the carpet or the wood floors and that the horse and other toys would need to be sanitized. That poor horse. LOL But, that I could handle, it was pee spraying all over the place that worried me. So I started with him in a large t-shirt. This way he was naked, but the t-shirt prevented him from spraying everywhere. We really only had a couple of accidents and he would take off running when he realized he had to pee or poo. I think being naked made him very aware.  This was a huge accomplishment! Unfortunately when I would put underwear or especially a pull up on him he would go. This was NOT helpful, the kid can’t be naked all the time!

Since the naked was working though I kept him naked as often as possible. If we were home he was generally naked. Every now and then I would put some underwear on him and he would pee, but I was hoping he would get better at it. I think he was having trouble remembering that he was wearing underwear not pull ups. He would get engrossed in whatever he was playing with and would think that his underwear were pull ups and have an accident.

Slowly but surely with LOTS of reminders from me to go potty he slowly got better. Next up was getting him to go to the potty on his own when wearing underwear.

Pottytraining Rewards Chart2) Rewards Chart

We have only just started using a chart but I am already loving this! Noah get’s excited to put a sticker on the chart and when he makes it to the end of the road he gets to pick out a toy from the toy store! We kind of accelerated the first reward to make sure he understood what was going on and as you can see he was very excited to get his toy. And yes I realize that was kind of a big toy, but I figured it was the first and he has been talking about that truck for-ev-er!! Now I am going to print out a picture of his next toy (which will be way smaller) and put it next to the reward chart on the wall. I think this will help him keep his eye on the prize. And once we get past pottytraining (whenever that will be) I’m going to continue using the rewards chart to reward other behaviors. I found this rewards chart from Lakeshore Learning and they had tons of other styles. I also noticed that Joann Fabric’s also had a couple too!
